Introduction to the C4W webkit

The C4W toolkit is a tool to assist people managing water resources in municipalities, agriculture, nature conservation and research to use climate information in their work. The toolkit is a pilot system of climate variability information delivery. This information system will disseminate specific climate data and products through the web.

Information from interviews, workshops and focus groups held with water managers has been used to develop an educational toolkit (including this website and the online tutorial) for translating climate information into decisions for water resource managers. The toolkit draws on recent developments in knowledge of climate variability in South Africa, as well as techniques for interpreting data and examples of where information has and has not been useful. It also has basic information that appeals to a wide audience that could be used for planning, educational purposes or policy.

We hope that the toolkit will help to guide water resource managers through a process of educating other stakeholders (such as farmers and local authorities) about climate variability information and its potential applications and limitations.
